Modifying Cars Goes EV: Electric Cars in the Car Scene
With the world switching (forced) to go EV, we asked each of the founding members of Mod Central the same questions to get their thoughts, here is what they had to say:
Mark:
Make a 2 car garage from just EV cars
Rimac Nevera and Porsche Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo
Do you think EV cars will be the future?
I think they could be with a lot more infrastructure. I think they are perfect for people who drive short distances and don’t have a passion for cars and driving. At the moment for me there is to much of a gap between how an engine powered car makes you feel as a car enthusiast compared to an EV.
What would car companies have to do to win the hearts of car enthusiasts with EV’s?
I think at the moment apart from a few of them they look like they are just to aimed at A to B driving for people that drive because they have to not because they enjoy it. You can start seeing that change in recent months with more cars coming out from Mercedes, Audi and BMW etc. As someone that is into cars I can see myself in an EV as a daily but only ever if I had another car for the more fun journeys to enjoy on a weekend!
What would be the first mod you would do to an EV?
It has be to be styling. For me most EV’s come with pretty bad wheels on them so I would get a new set of alloys.
Luke:
Make a 2 car garage from just EV cars
Lotus Electre and Hyundai Ioniq 5 N
Do you think EV cars will be the future?
For the majority of the world as long as the infastructure is in place and the technology keeps advancing it makes sense for them to go electric as they are relativley cheap to run and maintain, this issue at the moment is it is not viable for all road goers to switch to electric or their would be chaos it’s also very expensive to get into one and perhaps not so enviromentally firendly as first thought. My fingers are crossed for carbon neutral hydrogen.
What would car companies have to do to win the hearts of car enthusiasts with EV’s?
The issue with all electric cars for me is that they like emotion, which makes sense for 99% of driving but for that 1% they are last cars you would want to be in. Hyundai have made steps forward bringing out the Ioniq 5 with fake gear changes and fake engine noises, but at the end of the day that all it is… fake. I’m not entirely sure how car companies could get around this unfortunately.
What would be the first mod you would do to an EV?
Perhaps styling or handling mods. They come out the factory with one purpose, get from one place to another with as little bother as possible so apart from a couple they all look very NPC. Most EV cars are quite quick off the line, however, due to the extreme weight as soon as they sniff a corner they run out of steam, which is why even though you save on engine maintenance you end up spending more on worn suspension components which is why I’d upgrade that first and there are a few options out there already for some EV’s.
Matty:
Make a 2 car garage from just EV cars
Audi RS E-tron gt and BMW I7 for the luxury
Do you think EV cars will be the future?
No I do not, I think hydrogen will come into play soon
What would car companies have to do to win the hearts of car enthusiasts with EV’s?
They need more more character. A car without the sound of the engine and exhaust takes away from the experience of driving a performance car.
What would be the first mod you would do to an EV?
Altough they are a bit of a gimmic and have not heard what they sound like in person, I really like the idea of the THOR exhaust system.
If you haven’t already check out what new EV’s are coming to the market
