Is It Worth Modifying Your Daily Ford?
Mod Central
The Advantages
- Improved Performance: A remap or induction kit are easy mods that can make your daily run-in more enjoyable. Not only that but increased power means the engine is under less stress and you can see an increase in fuel economy.
- Better Looks: Wheels, subtle tinting, or a splitter kit can enhance visibility for your Ford.
- Increased Comfort & Tech: Android Auto head units or ambient lighting can make your daily commute more pleasurable. After all you do spend 99% of your time inside your car and not outside looking at it.
The Drawbacks
- Insurance Costs: They may raise your premiums, especially undeclared ones. (Some Mods can actually decrease your premium)
- Reliability Concerns: Over-tuning or installing low-quality components can reduce lifespan. As they say buy cheap buy twice.
- Resale Value: Some mods have the effect of deterring future buyers who would like a pristine, OEM sample. After all, modifications are a personal preference and might not be to everyone's taste.
Best of the Daily Mods
- Stage 1 ECU tune (incremental power bump without sacrificing reliability), especially on boosted engines.
- Lowering springs for aggressive stance and lower centre of gravity.
- Slight cosmetic bits like bolt on kits or dechroming
- Upgrade infotainment or dash cameras
