The CSF #7064 radiator is equipped with OE BMW quick-connect radiator hose connections. However, models manufactured prior to 09/1998 utilize slip-on style hose connections. To ensure compatibility with these earlier models, several component updates are necessary. These parts are commonly replaced during routine cooling system maintenance and include:

Although primarily designed for manual transmission models, this radiator is compatible with automatic transmission variants produced before 09/1998 without any modifications. For automatic models manufactured after 09/1998, minimal alteration to the drain plug is required.
Specifically, post-09/1998 automatic 540i models incorporate a water-to-oil transmission cooler integrated on the left-hand (LH) side of the radiator. To facilitate connection with the factory transmission oil cooler, the LH drain plug must be replaced with an AN6 9/16 - 18UNF threaded hose fitting. It is essential to verify the inner diameter of the radiator-to-transmission oil cooler regulator valve hose to ensure the correct hose fitting size is utilized.
