The Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II secured Mercedes-Benz its inaugural DTM championship in 1992, a milestone that solidified the 190E's prominent position in automotive history and intensified the renowned Mercedes-BMW rivalry. Today, the 190E stands as a highly sought-after classic, comparable in desirability to the iconic E30 M3. Enthusiasts and restorers aiming to preserve these German engineering masterpieces often encounter a significant challenge: the original radiator is no longer manufactured by Mercedes. Addressing this critical need, CSF has meticulously developed a new All-Aluminum OEM+ radiator, inspired by one of the original units procured directly from Mercedes. This radiator is crafted to exacting standards, catering to purists committed to authentic restoration while also delivering enhanced performance for motorsport applications and spirited driving.

The development of the CSF radiator for the Mercedes 190E 2.3-16 and 2.5-16 models equipped with factory air conditioning originated from a collaboration with FlieBen, a Mercedes specialty workshop. FlieBen sought a high-quality radiator solution following the discontinuation of the original parts and naturally engaged CSF, recognized industry-wide as "The Cooling Experts." CSF is concurrently advancing a radiator variant tailored for the 190E 2.3-16 and 2.5-16 models without factory-installed air conditioning, further expanding options for classic Mercedes owners.

The original equipment (OE) radiator supplied by Mercedes featured a plastic tank combined with a single-row aluminum core. While this design was considered robust and reliable at the time, advancements in heat exchanger technology over the past decades have dramatically improved cooling efficiency. High-performance classic vehicles, such as the 190E 2.3-16 and 2.5-16, benefit substantially from modern cooling solutions that provide superior heat dissipation and fluid capacity. Restorers and enthusiasts understand the importance of integrating updated components that maintain authenticity while enhancing functionality and durability.

CSF's radiator incorporates a 2-row, 42mm aluminum core, significantly increasing the coolant volume and enhancing heat dissipation capabilities. The inclusion of CSF's proprietary B-Tube Technology elevates heat transfer efficiency by approximately 15% compared to conventional oval welded tubes. This innovation, combined with nearly double the number of cooling fins and tubes relative to the OEM unit, ensures the CSF radiator delivers markedly superior cooling performance. The multi-louvered fin design optimizes airflow through the core, maximizing thermal exchange and maintaining optimal engine temperatures even under demanding conditions.

Installation is straightforward, as the radiator mounts directly in the factory location without requiring any modifications or cutting. The construction utilizes 100% TIG-welded aluminum, which not only enhances structural integrity but also improves resistance to corrosion and mechanical stress, ensuring long-term reliability and durability. The radiator’s satin finish offers a refined aesthetic consistent with high-quality OEM parts.

Originally, the 190E 2.3-16 and 2.5-16 models were equipped with a mechanical clutch-style fan. While these fans remain functional, many owners prefer the increased efficiency and convenience of modern electric fans. To facilitate this upgrade, CSF includes CNC-machined mounting brackets compatible with 16-inch SPAL electric fans. Both the low-profile SPAL #30100400 and medium-profile SPAL #30101516 fans can be seamlessly installed using these brackets. It is important to note that a separate fan controller (not included) is required to operate the electric fan system effectively.

For applications involving the removal of the factory air conditioning condenser in favor of an oil cooler, CSF has integrated threaded bolt inserts (M8 x 1.25) into the radiator design to accommodate oil cooler mounting. Although custom brackets must be fabricated by the installer, CSF recommends the use of their Universal Oil Coolers, specifically the #8110 Dual-Pass or #8111 Single-Pass models, which are especially suited for track and racing environments. This feature provides additional flexibility for owners seeking enhanced cooling solutions beyond standard configurations.
